Fall 2013, Friday Section Computer Communications (USC CSci 551). Professor: John Heidemann.
- There will be two sections of CSci551 in Fall 2013: one taught by John Heidemann, 9am-noon Fridays (with both DEN and in-class call numbers), and a second section taught by Ethan Katz-Basset at some other time. This web page is for the Heidemann section.
- The primary web site for this class will be my CSci551 moodle (moodle is an open source course management system).
- The CSci551 Moodle will require student accounts. Instructions to get the accounts will appear here in summer 2013. To get a Moodle account, first fill out the the 551 web information form, then it will give you an “enrollment key” and let you create a moodle account. (Sorry for the multiple steps.)
- All CSci551 students in my section are required to fill out the 551 web information form before the second class.
- A draft syllabus [PDF] is currently available.
- I will not likely have project details until a week or two into class. However, you can assume, as in prior years, there will be a three-part project. The first part will be short. Projects are for individuals (not groups). Projects are cumulative. An implementation of second project will be provided as an option for students who do the third project.
- The midterm will probably be in class on Fri. Oct. 18, 9am-noon, and the final will definitely be at the university mandated time of Monday, Dec. 16, 11am-1pm. Exam dates and times are mandatory. I do not do make-up exams. If you have travel plans, please schedule accordingly.

We will begin lecture on first day class, including discussing the papers for that day (listed below). Students are strongly encouraged to download the papers for the first day and read them before coming to class. (For classes after the first day, reading the papers before-hand is required.)
The first three papers are publicly available on the web:
- The remainder of the papers will be available only through the moodle.
