First IMC Workshop on Internet Visualization (WIV 2012) Call for Papers (Sponsored by ACM SIGCOMM) November 13, 2012 Boston, Massachusetts, USA http://ant.isi.edu/wiv2012/ In conjunction with ACM Internet Measurements Conference IMC 2012 (November 14-16, 2012). CALL FOR PAPERS Measurement is important to understanding the Internet and related networks, and for more than a decade conferences have been dedicated to network measurement. However, in an age where increasingly large sets of semantically rich data ("big data") is being collected about today's networks, visualization plays an ever more critical role in understanding this data and ultimately the networks themeselves. Yet, technical advances in network visualization often require a different perspective than is typical for network measurements. WIV 2012 seeks to provide a venue to discuss these advances. WIV seeks original short papers on different aspects of network visualization, and will support optional supplemental multimedia. Taking a broad view of network visualization, topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * the Internet backbone and access networks (e.g., home networks, cellular networks, WLANs) * data centers and cloud computing infrastructure * peer-to-peer and content distribution networks * infrastructure for online social networks (including mobile OSNs) * information propagation over different types of communication networks Visualizations may include: * new graphical representations of networks * novel approaches for visualizing dymanics in these networks * animations and movies about networks * other forms of representations of networks (audio, tactile, 3D) * algorithms or tools that produce these visualizations Evaluation criteria include: * does the visualization reveal new information about the network? * is the visualization novel? * does the visualization approach enable new research? Submission guidelines Submissions for technical papers must describe original research, not published or currently under review for other workshops, conferences, or journals. Submissions consist of a short paper (limited to 6 pages, 10 pt, two-column format, on letter page size, must include names and affiliations of all authors on the title page) and optional supplementary materials. Supplementary materials may include graphics, animations, movies or other media. All submissions will be done electronically; supplementary materials must be available on-line by the submission deadline. Submissions that do not comply with these requirements will be rejected without review. Using the sig-alternate-10pt.cls style file with options that produce letter page size guarantees that the formatting requirements are satisfied. Submissions site: http://ant.isi.edu/wiv2012sub/ Accepted papers will be published after the workshop in an indexed, archival publisher.
