{"id":1298,"date":"2018-12-12T09:44:17","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T17:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/blog\/?p=1298"},"modified":"2020-10-14T15:45:59","modified_gmt":"2020-10-14T22:45:59","slug":"new-project-detecting-interpreting-and-validating-from-outside-in-and-control-disruptive-events-divoice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/blog\/?p=1298","title":{"rendered":"new project &#8220;Detecting, Interpreting, and Validating from Outside, In, and Control, Disruptive Events&#8221; (DIVOICE)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are happy to announce a new project,&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/divoice\/index.html\">Detecting, Interpreting, and Validating from Outside, In, and Control, Disruptive Events (DIVOICE)<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The DIVOICE project\u2019s goal is to detect and understand Network\/Internet Disruptive Events (NIDEs)\u2014outages in the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>We will work toward this goal by examining outages at multiple levels of the network: at the data plane, with tools such as Trinocular (developed at USC\/ISI) and Disco (developed at IIJ); at the control plane, with tools such as BGPMon (developed at Colorado State University); and at the application layer.<\/p>\n<p>We expect to improve methods of outage detection, validate the work against each other and external sources of information, and work towards attribution of outage root causes.<\/p>\n<p>DIVOICE is a joint effort of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/\">ANT Lab<\/a>&nbsp;involving&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/\">USC\/ISI<\/a>&nbsp;(PI:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/~johnh\/\">John Heidemann<\/a>) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colostate.edu\/\">Colorado State University<\/a>&nbsp;(PI:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/compsci.colostate.edu\/person\/?id=B671CC0FDBA374C584551B7982C0D4DE&amp;sq=t\">Craig Partridge<\/a>).&nbsp; &nbsp;DIVOICE builds on prior work on the LACANIC and Retro-Future Bridge and Outage projects.&nbsp; DIVOICE is supported by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/science-and-technology\/cyber-security-division\">DHS HSARPA Cyber Security Division<\/a>&nbsp;via contract number 70RSAT18CB0000014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are happy to announce a new project,&nbsp;Detecting, Interpreting, and Validating from Outside, In, and Control, Disruptive Events (DIVOICE).&nbsp;&nbsp; The DIVOICE project\u2019s goal is to detect and understand Network\/Internet Disruptive Events (NIDEs)\u2014outages in the Internet.
