{"id":1135,"date":"2017-12-07T02:33:46","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T10:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/blog\/?p=1135"},"modified":"2020-10-14T15:48:11","modified_gmt":"2020-10-14T22:48:11","slug":"new-project-lacanic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/blog\/?p=1135","title":{"rendered":"new project LACANIC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are happy to announce a new project,&nbsp;<strong>LACANIC<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/lacanic\/\">Los Angeles\/Colorado Application and Network Information Community.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The LACANIC project\u2019s goal is to develop datasets to improve Internet security and readability. We distribute these datasets through the DHS&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.impactcybertrust.org\/\">IMPACT<\/a>&nbsp;program.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this work we:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide&nbsp;<strong>regular data collection<\/strong>&nbsp;to collect long-term, longitudinal data<\/li>\n<li><strong>curate datasets<\/strong>&nbsp;for special events<\/li>\n<li><strong>build websites<\/strong>&nbsp;and portals to help make data accessible to casual users<\/li>\n<li><strong>develop new measurement approaches<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We provide several types of datasets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>anonymized packet headers<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>network flow data<\/strong>, often to document events like distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and regular traffic<\/li>\n<li><strong>Internet censuses<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>surveys<\/strong>&nbsp;for IPv4 to document address usage<\/li>\n<li><strong>Internet hitlists<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>histories<\/strong>, derived from IPv4 censuses, to support other topology studies<\/li>\n<li>application data, like&nbsp;<strong>DNS<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Internet-of-Things<\/strong>&nbsp;mapping, to document regular traffic and DDoS events<\/li>\n<li>and we are developing other datasets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>LACANIC allows us to continue some of the data collection we were doing as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/lacrend\/\">LACREND<\/a> project, as well as develop new methods and ways of sharing the data.<\/p>\n<p>LACANIC is a joint effort of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ant.isi.edu\/\">ANT Lab<\/a>&nbsp;involving&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/\">USC\/ISI<\/a>&nbsp;(PI:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/~johnh\/\">John Heidemann<\/a>) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colostate.edu\">Colorado State University<\/a>&nbsp;(PI:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.colostate.edu\/~christos\/\">Christos Papadopoulos<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We thank DHS&#8217;s Cyber Security Division for their continued support!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are happy to announce a new project,&nbsp;LACANIC, the Los Angeles\/Colorado Application and Network Information Community.
